At approximately 21h56 on Thursday evening 12 October 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a very serious collision on the N1 direction south, approximately ten kilometres outside Polokwane.

Reports from the scene indicate that two cars were involved in a head-on collision. The incident and preceding events will form part of a police investigation.

Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics found crash debris strewn across the dual carriageway. Paramedics from Netcare 911, the Provincial EMS as well as other ambulance services attended to seven people at the scene. One person had been ejected out of a car, the rest were trapped in the cars. The victims included two adult females, four adult males and a male child believed to be approximately three years of age.

Tragically there were no survivors, all of the victims had sustained severe injuries and died prior to the arrival of the paramedics.

The N1 was closed to allow police to investigate the scene. Fire fighters were called upon to use the “Jaws of Life” to free the victims from the crumpled vehicles.
