JHB: Houghton gym evacuated following a "gas leak"

13 October 2017 | From Arrive Alive

At approximately 11h20 on Friday 13 October 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a “gas leak” at a popular gym/Health Club in Houghton.

Reports from the scene allege that there was a strong smell of chlorine in the air and as a safety precaution all the patrons and staff were evacuated from the building. The incident still needs to be investigated.
A Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic assessed three patients at the scene; two males and a female. They were all employees of the gym and appeared to have inhaled some of the gas, two had relatively minor to moderate symptoms while the third had only slight symptoms. All three were in a stable condition and were transported by ambulances from Netcare 911 and another ambulance service to hospital for further assessment and care.
No one else complained of any symptoms.
