The Department's Road Safety Directorate held a road safety campaign at the Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) to encourage and convey the message of safety amongst students and their peers.

This campaign will run throughout the province in 12 districts to educate youth about road safety, the use of public transport, responsible drinking, saying no to drug use and to be vigilante of socials ills during Youth Month and beyond.

The department teamed up with the Road Accident Fund (RAF), Ethekwini Transport Authority, Ethekwini Youth Desk and KZN Youth in Road Safety structure represented by Nkosenhle Mngadi.

Departmental Principle Road Safety Officer, Ms Phumelele Cindi urged youth to comply with road rules as a high rate of 18-35 year olds are mostly involved in road crashes,
drunk driving and driving & walking. She also urged the youth to be road safety ambassadors by conveying to others the importance of being road safety conscious through the newly adopted hash-tag #BeingSafeIsCool

Road Safety promotional hampers were given out to participating students.
