Two people were killed and seven others injured this afternoon following a bakkie rollover on the N1 highway, approximately 40km outside of Bloemfontein in the Free State.
ER24 paramedics, along with various other services, arrived on the scene shortly 14h00 to find the bakkie on the side the road. Several people were found lying scattered around the scene.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a man and woman lying some distance away from the bakkie. Unfortunately, the two people had already succumbed to their injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared.
Seven other patients were attended to on the scene. One patient was found lying trapped underneath the bakkie while six others were found scattered around the scene.
A towing vehicle was able to lift the front the bakkie, allowing paramedics to pull them free. On assessment, paramedics found that three people were in a critical condition while four others were found with moderate to minor injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and the critically injured provided with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to Pelonomi Provincial Hospital for urgent care.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
