Four people were killed and one person was left in a critical condition following an incident in Parow Valley, Cape Town this afternoon.

Shortly after 2pm, paramedics from ER24, Metro EMS, Metro Rescue as well as other emergency services arrived at a factory in Parow Valley. Rescuers found four people that showed no signs of life. Sadly, there was nothing that paramedics could do for them and they were declared dead on the scene. One person was in a critical condition and another in a moderate condition. A third person declined to be transported to hospital.

Bystanders explained that two men were cleaning a sump in the factory when they became unresponsive. Other workers apparently jumped in to provide aid and two of them also became unresponsive. Subsequently the four men sadly died on the scene. Three others were treated on the scene.

At this stage the exact circumstances surrounding the incident or why the men became unresponsive is not yet known. Metro Emergency Services attended the scene and will conduct an investigation along with the police.
