Bus and bakkie collide leaving one dead, numerous others injured in Polokwane

One man was killed and numerous others left injured this morning when a bakkie and bus collided on the N1 highway, approximately 15km outside of Polokwane towards Musina.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene at 10h05 to find the bus lying on its side on the side of the road. The bakkie was found torn apart in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision.

On closer inspection, medics found a man lying motionless inside the bakkie while numerous passengers from the bus were walking around on the scene.

Medics assessed the patients and found that the bakkie driver had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

Numerous other patients were tended to on the scene by various services, the injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The patients were treated and thereafter transported by various services to nearby hospitals.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
