Police arrest more than 40 drunk driving suspects forming part of over 1400 suspects arrested during weekend operations across Gauteng

Gauteng police continue to conduct O Kae Molao operations across all districts in Gauteng which resulted in the arrest of over 1400 suspects. Among the arrested was a woman who was found in possession of unlicensed firearms and drugs in Westbury over the weekend in Johannesburg District.

On Friday night, 9 April 2021, police members were informed about a woman who was hiding guns for suspects in Westbury. The information was operationalised which led the police to a house in Westbury where the female suspect was found and arrested in possession of two unlicensed firearms and drugs.

In another incident, Crime Intelligence Unit in West Rand District followed up on information regarding robbers who were hiding in a house in Hekpoort. Upon their arrival three suspects managed to evade arrest, one suspect was found in possession of unlicensed firearm and arrested. The suspect will be profiled to determine if he may be linked to other crimes.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela together with the acting Tshwane District Commissioner, Major General Yvonne  Botshileng led operations in Temba over the weekend whereby police arrested twenty suspects at a multi-disciplinary roadblock; impounded a suspected stolen vehicle, and detectives arrested over 200 suspects wanted for various serious and violent crimes. Among the arrested suspects over 60 were arrested for gender-based violence crimes which totals more than 500 suspects arrested in Tshwane District. Also in attendance at the operations in Temba were senior management from the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies. In Stinkwater police found a tavern being over capacitated and not adhering to the National COVID-19 Lockdown Alert Level One regulations. The liquor was confiscated and police closed down the tavern.

Furthermore, in West Rand District over 170 suspects were arrested during the operation in Mohlakeng and Randfontein, illegal liquor outlets were closed down and liquor confiscated. In Johannesburg District over 350 suspects were arrested for various serious and violent crimes.

Meanwhile, over 350 suspects were nabbed in the Ekurhuleni District by integrated law enforcement agencies for various offenses including driving while under the influence of liquor.

The arrested suspects will be appearing in our various courts soon.
