Several injured in a road crash on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near La Lucia offramp

Multiple people have been injured in a serious accident on the M4 Ruth First Freeway near La Lucia offramp just after 11 am on Saturday morning. 

ALS Paramedics Medical Services together with Netcare911 arrived on the scene to find that a fully loaded taxi and a light motor vehicle had collided before both vehicles left the roadway. One person, a female believed to be in her twenties sustained serious injuries and was severely entrapped in her vehicle. She was stabilized on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics while the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were used to try and free her from the vehicle.

Once free she was placed on specialized equipment and rushed through to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that she required. Twelve others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious were stabilized on the scene before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that they required. 

At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
