Driver nabbed for fleeing off the crime scene and colliding with another driver in Putfontein

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department Bronberg Precinct members arrested a male suspect aged 34 years old for Reckless and negligent driving and resisting arrest at Putfontein area.

Whilst the EMPD officers were attending an accident scene at the corner of Durandt Road and Geldenhuys Road and clearing the accident scene a sliver Toyota Etios, failed to stop at Stop sign and using a wrong line. Officers tried to pull off the vehicle it slowed down and sped off. Officers gave chase and the vehicle was cornered at the corner of Durandt Road Malherbe Road. The driver was asked to produce a driver’s license and he said he does not have one and he was asked to step outside of the vehicle of which he did.

Members noticed that he could not stand still he was smelling of alcohol and his eyes were red. Officers removed keys from the Toyota Etios ignition and informed the driver that his trip has come to an end.

He ran back to his vehicle and drove off without keys of the vehicle. As he fled the scene members gave chase and backup was called. The suspect vehicle was driving reckless on the road as it was fleeing until it crushed into a white Ford ranger breakdown and the suspect tried to flee on foot but was caught and he resisted arrest.

He was arrested using minimal force. He was detained at Putfontein SAPS for Reckless and Negligent Driving and Resisting Arrest.
