WC offers free vehicle safety checks ahead of Easter

22 March 2024 | From Arrive Alive

The Western Cape Government is offering FREE ten-point vehicle checks by qualified examiners from Saturday, 23 March to Thursday, 28 March at venues in Cape Town and Drakenstein.

Please take up this opportunity to check that your vehicle is roadworthy. Our aim is not to catch anyone out, but to help detect potential problems before you hit the road for long-distance travel. We want you and your loved ones to travel safely over this holiday period.

The free ten-point vehicle inspection covers essential components such as tyres, brakes, lights, suspension, CV joints, electrical systems, exhaust, wipers, licence discs, and more.

I appeal especially to public transport operators to take responsibility for driver and vehicle fitness, while transporting large volumes of passengers into and out of our province during the Easter period.

In partnership with Private Testing Centres and local authorities, we've made these tests easily accessible to a wide range of motorists. Please join us at:

March has been a devasting month with multiple fatal traffic crashes on our roads. As the school holiday begins and families prepare to travel, we all need to take responsibility for road safety. Let's make this Easter holiday a time of joy and safety on Western Cape roads.

Our various Traffic Management teams are ready for this busy period and we will do our best to keep residents and visitors safe on the roads. Heightened provincial traffic law enforcement will include high visibility patrols targeting moving violations, interprovincial corridor operations, K78 roadblocks focused on ‘exodus’ traffic, and fatigue management interventions.

For more information about the free vehicle testing, please call 021 983 1500.
