
A firearm used in the murder of a Pakistani National has been recovered and the suspect sought in the matter was arrested by Reaction Officers.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to an apartment on Thompson Lane in the Verulam CBD - KZN after receiving reports of a shooting and hijacking yesterday afternoon (Thursday). On arrival, it was established that the owner of a cellphone shop shot and killed an employee at a flat they were sharing. The suspect fired shots at a second male before fleeing to the basement where he hijacked a grey Hyundai Sonata.
All three men are Pakistani Nationals. The injured man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Reaction Officers tracked the vehicle and recovered it abandoned on Old Main Road in Ottawa - KZN.
This morning (Friday), Reaction Officers were dispatched to a callout regarding an injured male walking on Mission Road in Missionlands - KZN at approximately 08:14. On arrival, Officers noticed that the man had sustained a fracture to his right hand. Suspicion was raised after he refused medical attention and declined to provide an explanation as to how he was injured.
While interviewing the male, Reaction Officers established that he was a Pakistani National who may be linked to the murder/hijacking that occurred yesterday afternoon. The man confirmed his identity during further questioning.
He informed RUSA Members that the firearm used in the murder/hijacking was discarded along a railway line in Phoenix - KZN. A team of RUSA Officers were dispatched to the location and a licensed 9mm Canik belonging to the suspect was recovered after an extensive search.
The suspect and firearm were handed over to Police for further investigation.
