Off-duty security officer ambushed and killed in Oaklands

An off-duty RUSA Security Officer was ambushed and killed in Oaklands - KZN.
A member of the public contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre after they witnessed the Security Officer pursuing a man into a dense bush on Todd Street. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival were informed that three unknown males were seen exiting the bush, but there was no visual of the Security Officer.
RUSA Members entered the bush to conduct a search and located the 30-year-old Security Officer in a prone position. Paramedics were immediately summoned and it was established that he sustained a single stab wound to his chest. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased.
Reaction Officers interviewed several individuals and established that the deceased was clad in full uniform while returning to his residence. He was robbed of his cellphone by one male armed with a knife while walking on Todd Street.
The deceased pursued the robber and it is believed that he was ambushed and killed by the suspect’s accomplices in the bush.
