The body of the missing skipper police divers and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) have been searching for since Sunday was recovered in Hartbeespoort Dam this morning.
According to an article published by Kormorant, witnesses saw the skipper fall off a boat near Eagles Landing at Pecanwood Estate on Sunday.
According to Arthur Crewe, NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam station commander, the NSRI received a report at approximately 17:30 after children raised the alarm.
The NRSI reached the scene within two minutes.
“Witnesses described seeing the boat turning in circles and it may have run over the man. The boat ran aground without an occupant as the NSRI rescue craft was approaching.”
Police divers, Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement and the Strategic Response Rescue Unit joined NSRI Hartbeespoort Dam and a search commenced for the local adult man.
“It appears that the boat kill switch may not have deployed and may not have been attached when the man fell overboard. The boat reportedly launched from Eagle Waters Resort,” Crewe says.
The man’s identity has not been revealed yet and police are investigating the incident.
