Three million cheers for NATIS online vehicle license renewal platform

19 February 2025 | Department of Transport

The Road Traffic Management Corporation’s online vehicle license renewal portal turns three years old today and it continues to be the preferred online platform by many South African motorists.

About 3.5 million transactions have been completed on the portal since its launch in February 2022. The license disc is delivered anywhere in the country within three to five working days.

With more than 165,417 transactions conducted monthly, the Natis online service has gained public confidence, as it is quick, easy, convenient and affordable.

Motorists appreciate the online service due to its ability to access the service 24/7, eliminating the need for time-consuming trips to physical offices.

On average, 3, 174 transactions are processed per day, as the motorists recognize that the portal is user-friendly. This ease of use is complemented by mobile accessibility from citizens, enabling them to complete renewals on the go.

The service to renew online is available at online.natis.gov.za and motorists can now pay AARTO traffic fines on same platform to prevent the inconvenience of not receiving a license disc when applied online.

To enjoy the benefit of the service, vehicle owners must log on and register in five easy steps using your smart cell phone, laptop or computer.

• First you go to https://www.natis.gov.za/
• Click on register
• Select whether you are registering as an individual or business
• Enter your personal details, i.e. identity number, initials and surname. Click next
• Enter vehicle number plate
• Click next and enter contact details.
• Submit and finish registering

After registration you will be entitled to receive email and SMS reminders when the renewals of your vehicle licence become due.

The email reminder will contain a renewal form which you can use to fill in and renew online without hassle.

RTMC launched the online vehicle license disc renewals in February 2022 to assist motorists to avoid long queues at vehicle licensing centers.

“We remain committed to meet the demand for digital technologies in public services as one of the top priorities for government to improve the quality of services we bring to our citizens”. Adv. Makhosini Msibi. CEO of the Road Traffic Management Corporation.
