Twelve taxis impounded in the Elsburg area.

On Thursday 15 May 2025 at 07:30, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Taxi Task Team in conjunction with Gauteng Traffic Police and the South African Police Service (SAPS), impounded twelve(12) minibus taxis for failing to meet the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 in the Elsburg area. 

A joint operation was conducted with a stern focus on compliance of Minibus taxis throughout the City of Ekurhuleni. Officers managed to stop Toyota Quantum’s, Toyota Super 16 and Toyota Siyaya taxis and upon inspection, Officers discovered a number of offences on the said vehicles, operating without  permits and without operator cards, while some of them overall conditions of the vehicles failed to meet the requirements of the National Road Traffic Act of 93/1996. All twelve(12) of those minibus taxis were impounded and taken to Benoni Provincial Pound. 

The EMPD appeal to all operators and taxi owners to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, while operating as public transport and scholar transport in the City of Ekurhuleni.
