Operation Vala Umgodi tightens grip on criminal activities in the ZF Mcgawu District

20 May 2025 | From Arrive Alive

The Northern Cape Operation Vala Umgodi MAJOC Roving Team, in support of the ZF Mgcawu District, executed several successful arrests during an integrated operation in the Postmasburg area on Monday, 19 May 2025.

In collaboration with security teams from Beeshoek and Kolomela Mines, four suspects were apprehended for violations related to immigration laws and drug dealing.

This operation focused on curbing criminal activities in and around the Postmasburg landfill site, which has reportedly also been linked to cable theft incidents affecting nearby mining operations.

During the operation, several illegal structures were dismantled. A woman and her five children were referred to the Department of Social Development for further support and care.

Two foreign nationals, aged 25 and 32, were detained and processed by officials from the Department of Home Affairs: Immigration Services, and will face legal proceedings in court.

In addition, two South African nationals, aged 26 and 36, were arrested for drug-related offences.

All suspects are expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate's Court soon.

If you SEE something, SAY something.

Report illegal mining and other criminal activities to SAPS Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App.
