On Thursday 15 May 2025, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) High Speed Unit Officers, arrested a male and female aged thirty-six(36) and fifty(50) for exceeding the speed limit of 80km/h in the Springs area.

While performing law enforcement duties on Paul Kruger road, Officers set up a  high-speed monitoring equipment to check for compliance with the designated speed limit of 80km/h on that roadway. Officers stopped a Grey Volvo and a Grey BMW, of which both failed to comply with the designated speed limit. Both drivers failed to give satisfactory reasons for being in contravention of the National Road Traffic Act 93/1996 and with video footage as evidence, they were immediately handcuffed and placed under arrest for exceeding the speed limit.

The pair were detained at the Springs Police Station and are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon. The EMPD appeals to motorists to practice caution and to adhere to speed limits on roadways as speeding is one of the major contributing factors of road fatalities throughout the City of Ekurhuleni.
