In an intelligence driven multi- disciplinary tactical operation by Komani Dog Unit (K9), Komani Crime Intelligence (CI) and Red Guard Security guards, three suspects aged between 26 and 45  were arrested for allegations of possession and /or dealing in drugs and abalone on the evening of 10 July 2025.

It is alleged that on 10 July 2025 at about 18:00 the team received information about a white Toyota Starlet sedan with a GP registration number that was transporting abalone and crystal meth (tik) from East London to Gauteng via Komani.

The joint team spotted the vehicle that matched the description on the same day at 19:40. The car with 3 occupants was stopped on N6 near Komani Hospital. The trio tried to evade arrest by running to different directions without success as police swiftly caught up with them.

During the arrest, the following items were recovered:

- 1 bag of abalone with 212 units weighing 28kg with a street value of more than R50 000

- 1 x500g crystal meth (tik) with a street value of more than R150 000

- 4 x cellphones

The Toyota Starlet worth more than R520 000 used as instrumentality during the commission of a crime was also seized.

The suspects will appear before Komani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 July 2025.

The tremendous success by the joint team is lauded by the District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph.
