Police have arrested a 37-year-old foreign national after drugs worth an estimated street value of R20 000 were found in his vehicle during #OperationBasadi in Welkom.

It is alleged that on Friday, 8 August 2025, Lt Col Sello and her team received information about an African male selling drugs from his vehicle. Information was operationalised, and the vehicle was spotted parked in the Welkom CBD. The Welkom K9 Unit was activated, and after much resistance from the alleged suspect, a search was conducted. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered a black plastic bag containing drugs hidden in the car.

Police confiscated 46x grams of crystal meth, 34x rocks of cocaine and 19x mandrax tablets, money to the amount of R1 500-00, and a white Volkswagen Polo.

The 37-year-old male was subsequently arrested for possession of drugs. He will appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court soon. #DrugsOffTheStreets
