The Gauteng Transport Inspectorate (GTI), working with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), has intensified its high-impact operations to curb lawlessness and improve road safety ahead of the festive season.
Between 01 and 07 December 2025, officers:
- Discontinued 93 unroadworthy vehicles, including 83 minibuses
- Impounded 40 vehicles for serious non-compliance
- Issued over 500 manual and 808 electronic infringement notices
- Found 137 taxi operators driving without valid licences
- Flagged 65 minibuses operating without license discs
Furthermore, several motorists were arrested for attempted bribery, fraud, and reckless and negligent driving.
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, praised the results saying that if a vehicle is not safe or roadworthy, it will not be allowed on Gauteng’s roads.
“Our priority is ensuring every family arrives safely this festive season,” said the MEC.
With a team of 96 officers, the GTI remains committed to removing unsafe vehicles, strengthening compliance, and keeping Gauteng’s roads safe.
