
An Armed Robbery was reported in Waterloo - KZN involving a minibus taxi transporting passengers from Umhlanga - KZN this morning (Monday).
According to the driver, the Toyota Quantum, which was carrying 15 passengers, entered the Waterloo - KZN when it was intercepted by three (3) vehicles, believed to be a VW Polo, Suzuki Swift, and a Suzuki Ertiga.
The driver could not confirm the exact number of suspects but stated that there were more than five (5). In an attempt to evade the suspects, the driver accelerated, during which the taxi collided with the Suzuki Ertiga. As a result of the impact, the mini bus veered off the roadway and crashed into a manhole.
The suspects then approached the taxi and held the driver and all passengers at gunpoint. During the robbery, the suspects stole all 15 passengers’ cellular phones, the driver’s cellphone, as well as R280 in cash, which was the money collected for the taxi load. Before fleeing the scene, the suspects fired four shots.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the scene after receiving reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers conducted a search of the area and an inspection of the scene, where three (3) 9mm cartridges and one blank round were recovered.
No injuries were reported.
