Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the recent incidents of violence in schools.

In one incident, a fight allegedly broke out among learners at a school in Mhluzi near Middelburg, resulting in a 20-year-old Grade 10 learner allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old Grade 11 learner. The suspect has been arrested.

In another incident, learners from Kamhola High School in Emjindini near Barberton were involved in a fight that was captured on video and went viral on social media.

MEC Macie has welcomed the arrest of the learner and urged learners to refrain from delinquent behaviour and focus on their studies.

"We condemn violence in the strongest possible terms, both in and outside schools. Learners must refrain from any delinquency, including being part of gangs. No bullying should be allowed in our schools. Educators should report any untoward or criminal behaviour in schools to the police so that bad elements are removed from our schools," he said.

MEC Macie appealed to parents and guardians to work closely with the police and report violent behaviour to nip it in the bud. He also advised parents to be actively involved in raising their children and not abdicate their responsibilities to the teachers.

He urged parents to seek help from social workers if they notice any errant behaviour in their children.

The MEC also sent condolences to the family of the learner, the school, and the entire community.
