
The Tactical Response Team deployed in the OR Tambo District arrested a 41-year-old male suspect from Lucingweni locality, Hluleka Administrative Area, for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
The arrest was effected on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at about 17:00, after police members noticed two vehicles parked next to the road, with a male standing nearby. The vehicles were identified as a Toyota Quantum and a Toyota Hilux bakkie.
Upon questioning, the man alleged that he was the owner of both vehicles and stated that one of them had a mechanical fault, which he was attending to at the time.
Police members conducted a physical inspection of both vehicles and detected discrepancies. The vehicles were then circulated through the 10111 Call Centre for verification. The circulation revealed that the Toyota Quantum was reported stolen under a Libode CAS number of January 2021, while the Toyota Hilux bakkie was linked to a Khayelitsha CAS number of April 2022.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and both vehicles were seized by Police pending continued investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 23 January 2026, on charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
