The Free State Welkom #AntiGangUnit has swiftly arrested three suspects wanted in connection with an alleged house robbery that occurred in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, where a case was registered at Upper Tugela Police Station.

The arrests were executed in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District, within the Namahadi policing precinct, following intelligence received through the Free State Look-Out group. This led to a swift reaction and a successful operation.

On Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at about 08:00, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit received information regarding a house robbery and murder incident that had occurred in Bergville. The team immediately followed up on the intelligence and, with assistance from a tracker, proceeded to a house in Sebokeng Village, Qwaqwa.

Upon arrival, police found two suspects seated inside a white Isuzu bakkie bearing KZN registration plates. The vehicle was reported stolen during the house robbery in Bergville. The suspects were tactically approached and arrested. They were found to be under the influence of alcohol.

During a search, police recovered the vehicle keys from the pocket of one of the suspects. Further investigations led to the arrest of an additional suspect for possession of suspected stolen property, including men’s branded footwear and vehicle-related items.

Further interrogation led police to another house in Sebokeng Village, where a third suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, including pairs of sneakers, two bottles of whisky, a laptop with charger, three cellphones, nine replica firearms, men’s flops, two T-shirts, one pair of number plates, and a yellow cup. All items are believed to have been stolen during the commission of the crime and were seized.

The Bergville Detective Service has been summoned to Qwaqwa for further investigations. The three suspects, aged in their 20s, will be handed over to Bergville SAPS for further investigation and possible court appearance at the Bergville Magistrate’s Court.

The Free State Police Senior Management commends the members for their outstanding work, as crime knows no boundaries.
