Blow to the drug trade in Bloemfontein

The Provincial #AntiGangUnit in Bloemfontein has dealt a massive blow to the local drug trade, following a series of high-impact operations over the past 48 hours. Four suspects were apprehended and drugs with a total street value exceeding R715 000.00 were removed, from the streets of Heidedal.

On Saturday, 14 February 2026, the weekend crackdown continued with the execution of formal search warrants (J51) at targeted residences:

At 11:00, members converged on a residence suspected of being a drug outlet. Upon producing the warrant to a 40-year-old male, a thorough search was conducted. Officers discovered wrapped plastics containing “Rock” (cocaine) with an estimated street value of R75 000.00, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On the same day at 12:30, the unit proceeded to a second location where a 27-year-old male was presented with a search warrant. The operation led to the discovery of large quantities of dagga professionally wrapped in plastics, valued at approximately R60 000.00, and additional cash.

On Sunday, 15 February 2026 at about 07:00, the unit conducted a specialised early-morning operation. Acting on a strategic tip-off regarding two suspects, members moved in on a specific house where, upon spotting the police, a 38-year-old suspect attempted to evade arrest on foot.

He was swiftly intercepted. A search of the school bag he was carrying revealed a cache of drugs.

The investigation led members to a second address linked to the first suspect. There, they encountered a 36-year-old male. A comprehensive search of the premises uncovered a massive stockpile of various drugs such as khat, crystal meth and mandrax, with a combined street value of R580 000.00, as well as a significant undisclosed sum of cash.

All four suspects are currently detained at Heidedal SAPS. They face charges ranging from possession to dealing in illicit drugs and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in due course.
