Taxi crash leaves one dead and multiple injured, Pietermaritzburg

Midlands EMS crews were dispatched to Mbubu Road in Pietermaritzburg for a taxi accident.
On arrival it was found that a taxi had been involved in a serious accident. One person was found to be entrapped in the vehicle and in a critical condition, requiring the use of specialized rescue equipment to free the patient. Once freed, the patient’s condition deteriorated rapidly and the patient was unfortunately declared deceased on scene.
Multiple other patients sustained injuries ranging from critical to minor and were treated on scene by various emergency services before being transported to various hospitals for further medical care.
Authorities are currently in attendance and the cause of the accident is unknown at this stage.
