Two male suspects aged 19 and 20, were arrested by Tsolo police for carjacking and murder on Sunday, 08 March 2062, at about 04:00, whilst Lusikisiki police, also on Sunday, arrested a 23-year-old male suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm with the assistance of community members of Mdeni locality, Gqubeni A/A.
In the Tsolo incident, police were alerted to a carjacking in Tsolo Village and on arrival, a 30-year-old male victim was already dead with multiple stab wounds on his upper body. The victim’s hijacked vehicle was stuck in a nearby hole and two male suspects were caught by police whilst trying to flee the scene, with vehicle keys found on one of the suspects. Their clothes were full of blood stains and were subsequently collected to obtain scientific evidence to positively link them to the crime scene. Tsolo police are still looking for the third suspect who successfully evaded arrest on the day.
In a second, unrelated incident in Lusikisiki, Mdeni locality, community members apprehended a 23-year-old male suspect at about 10:15, for being in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol (with an erased serial number) and ammunition, and called police thereafter. The male suspect was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The trio is due to respectively appear before Magistrates’ Courts of their jurisdiction very soon, facing their charges.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, condemned the brutal killing of the 30-year-old victim whilst his vehicle was being hijacked and urged the police to leave no stone unturned in collecting all relevant and essential evidence for a watertight case to be brought to court so that justice for the deceased can be served.
