Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for assistance from a cashier at the Tongaat Toll Plaza on the N2 - KZN who believed that a male had been kidnapped yesterday afternoon (Monday).
Reaction Officers were dispatched and interviewed the witness on arrival. She explained that a white Suzuki Ertiga had stopped to pay the toll fee when a male passenger exited the vehicle crying and appeared emotional. A female began consoling him while another male assisted in escorting him back into the vehicle. The vehicle thereafter proceeded southbound on the N2.
A witness at the toll plaza informed Officers that he recognised the male and provided a contact number. Officers made telephonic contact with him and were informed that he had been dropped off in Hambanathi - KZN.
Reaction Officers proceeded to the location (picture 2) and found the 34 year old male heavily intoxicated. He explained that he had been consuming alcohol at a tavern when three (3) males convinced him to accompany them on a drive. While travelling, he realised that he had made a poor decision by leaving with individuals he did not know and became emotional when the vehicle stopped at the toll plaza.
He initially exited the vehicle seeking assistance but was later convinced by a female that they were taking him home. The occupants of the vehicle subsequently dropped him off at his residence.
After interviewing the male, it was confirmed that no kidnapping had taken place.
