Two people were arrested in Khutsong after a driving lesson resulted in a child's death, North West police said on Monday.

A 37-year-old man was taking his girlfriend, 34, for driving lessons after 6pm on Saturday, said Captain Adele Myburgh.

The sight of an oncoming vehicle prompted the man to grab the steering wheel from his girlfriend and jerk it to the left.

The car, a Toyota Corolla, veered into a yard where three children were playing.

One of the children, a four-year-old girl, was killed and the other two were injured.

Myburgh said the man and the woman would be charged with culpable homicide. - Sapa
