16 school girls injured as minibus taxi leaves Sibaya drive and overturns, KZN

At approximately 10H08 on Friday morning 19 May 2017, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports that a minibus taxi had overturned on Sibaya drive near the casino between the N2 and M4, in the Tongaat area, Durban. Reports from the scene indicate that the minibus was the only vehicle involved, it left the road and overturned.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 and other services attended to 17 people at the scene including the driver of the taxi, he, however, was not injured and remained at the scene with the authorities. Sixteen girls in school uniform, aged between 14 and 16, sustained minor to moderate injuries but thankfully all of them were in a stable condition. Netcare 911 ambulances transported six of them, the remaining ten were transported by other ambulance services to the hospital for further assessment and care.

Local authorities are still on scene and attending to the incident.
