Two people were killed and six others injured yesterday afternoon following a collision between two bakkies and a light motor vehicle on the R25 in Benoni, Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at approximately 17h00 finding one bakkie and a light motor vehicle in the middle of the road. The second bakkie was found lying on its side on the opposite side of the road.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered a woman lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle while a man was found lying outside next to the vehicle's door. Both were believed to be in their 50s.
Assessment of both patients found that they had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were pronounced dead.
Six other patients, believed to have been from the bakkies, were found on the scene.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that all six had sustained moderate injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
