Head-on collision leaves one dead, two injured on the R30 outside of Orkney.

One woman was killed and two other men injured this morning following a head-on collision between two bakkies on the R30 outside of Orkney.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 08h50 to find one bakkie in the left-hand lane of the road while the other had come to a stop on the side of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a woman lying in the driver’s seat of one of the vehicles. Paramedics assessed her and found that she had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for her and she was declared dead.
In the second vehicle, two men were found lying trapped inside. Paramedics assessed the men and found that one man, believed to be in his late 40s, was in a critical condition while the second man had sustained moderate injuries.
Fire services had to use specialize equipment to free both patients from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated the men and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions. A short time later, the critically injured man was airlifted to a nearby private hospital by the ER24 Oneplan helicopter. The second man was transported to hospital by ambulance.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
