Joint operation between SAPS and Private Security yields good results in the Eastern Cape

The joint operation by Cambridge SAPS, East London Flying Squad and Private Security members supported by SAPS Airwing and BCMM Nature Conversation yielded good results with the arrest of four (4) suspects.

The law enforcement members embarked on Operation “Catch Up” Eastern Cape and a joint parade was held at Oxford Striders field, Nahoon where Visible Policing Head, Brigadier Nomazwi Nkombisa addressed the members.

She appreciated the partnership and emphasized that criminals must feel the presence of law enforcement. “When criminals see you they must take a different direction”, she said.

Part of the operation was to patrol Nahoon beach and the Nahoon Point Nature Reserve where incidents of robberies of beach goers and surfers are reported.

As police and rangers were patrolling the Reef, they discovered a cave where a blanket was found, clearly indicating that there are people staying there.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two (2) suspects, aged 23 and 40 with 35kg of Transnet cables and 120kg of BCMM overhead cables. Another two suspects aged 37 and 40 were arrested at a vehicle checkpoint with mandrax and dagga syringes with traces of heroin.

All the suspects will appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 October 2020 facing charges of Criminal Matters Amendment Act and possession of drugs.

“Collaboration between Law Enforcement members definitely yields good results. We want to see more of these operations especially as we approach the Festive Season”, said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.
