Busy traffic conditions in N3 Toll Route this weekend

30 October 2020 | From Arrive Alive

With October month-end and schools re-opening again on Monday, road users should prepare for high volumes, congested conditions and possible delays on the N3 Toll Route this weekend.
Traffic volumes are steadily increasing in both south- and northbound directions this afternoon.

Expect lane closures and slow traffic at the following construction sites

• Mooi River to Howick
• Van Reenen’s Pass
• Frere (R74) to Midway
• Villiers to Warden

N3 Toll Concession’s current construction and rehabilitation programme is going full steam ahead to make up for lost time as a result of the earlier national Covid-19 lockdown, and to have the N3 Route ready for the December peak season.

“We recommend that road users plan ahead for slow moving traffic and possible delays, and we request them to please follow all safety precautions, especially when travelling through construction zones. Look out for, and adhere to the yellow warning signs, and please remember to reduce your speed,” asks Thania Dhoogra, operations manager of N3TC.

Weather warning

The South African Weather Service advises that wet weather conditions, with sudden downpours of rain and/or thunderstorms and low visibility can be expected along the entire N3 Toll Route from tomorrow through to Sunday, 01 November 2020.

“Motorists are reminded to increase their following distance, reduce their speed, keep headlights switched on, and to stay alert under these conditions.

Driving in adverse conditions requires patience and concentration, especially when traffic is moving slowly during peak traffic conditions,” warns ms. Dhoogra.

Expected peak traffic periods
• Friday, 30 October 2020 (north- and southbound directions):
Heavy traffic volumes (> 1500 vehicles per hour) with slow moving conditions, possible congestion and delays can be expected from 15h00 – 21h00.

• Saturday, 31 October 2020 (north- and southbound directions):
Light to busy traffic conditions are expected (800 – 1500 vehicles per hour).

• Sunday, 01 November 2020 (northbound direction, towards Gauteng):
Heavy traffic volumes (1500 – 2000 vehicles per hour) with slow moving conditions, possible congestion and delays can be expected from 10h00 – 21h00.
