Five injured in Collision with a TLB in Tongaat

14 April 2021 | From Arrive Alive

Five people were injured in a collision involving an SUV and a Bell Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) on the R102 between Tongaat and Ballito.

Passing motorists contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center from 11:06 requesting assistance for the injured. Reaction Officers and Medics responded to the scene and on arrival found an extensively damaged silver Mahindra TUV 300 on a grass verge next to the road.

Five occupants of the vehicle sustained moderate to severe injuries. They were stabilised on the scene before being transported to the hospital.

According to witnesses, the SUV was traveling in the direction of Tongaat when the driver attempted to overtake a Bell TLB that was proceeding in the same direction. The yellow and black TLB however turned right onto a driveway when the Mahindra collided with it. The driver of the earth-moving plant did not stop at the scene but drove into a farm.

Reaction Officers went in search of the driver and recovered the Bell TLB abandoned on a farm.
