The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Ms. Faith Mazibuko, is deeply saddened by the passing of a female Gauteng Traffic Police officer, Poppy Moaka,  attached to the Motorbike Unit of the Special Law Enforcement Unit. Officer Moaka passed away on the morning of Tuesday 14 September 2021, in a fatal accident on the R566 Rossyln Road next to Nkwe Estate.

The 40-year-old female biker officer lost her life, instantly, in a tragic accident while escorting a bus carrying Covid-19 vaccines to a vaccination site in Tshwane. According to preliminary information, two other vehicles were also involved in the fatal accident, including a police vehicle. Police investigations into the fatal crash have commenced.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing away of one of the most diligent and dedicated officers within the Gauteng Traffic Police. Officer Moaka will be remembered as a heroine who passed away in the line of duty, ensuring that the people of Gauteng get the vaccine essential in saving lives during this Covid-19 pandemic,” said MEC Mazibuko.

“As Gauteng Provincial Government, we convey our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues within the law enforcement fraternity during these trying times,” added MEC Mazibuko.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety will, through Ikhaya Lethemba Victim Empowerment, provide psycho-social support to the family of the officer. We wish to appeal to the members of the public to refrain from sharing pictures and videos of the deceased.
