Efforts to curb the influx of illicit drugs into the Western Cape once again paid dividends when members seized drugs with an estimated street value of about R1 million on the N2 highway at Plettenberg Bay. A 30-year-old man appeared at the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ court on Monday, 22 January 2024 in connection with the discovery.

On Friday, 19 January 2024 at about 05:00 members attached to the Rural Flying Squad were strategically deployed at a vehicle checkpoint at the entrance to Plettenberg Bay where they pulled over a Chevrolet bakkie. They noticed the driver of the vehicle behaving suspiciously and proceeded with a search.

The members opened a compartment on the side of the vehicle upon which they found packets of Tik stashed inside. Police confiscated 3,08 kilogram of Tik and arrested the driver. The vehicle was also seized.

The accused appeared on a charge of dealing in drugs. This matter was postponed to Friday, 26 January 2024 and he was remanded in custody.

It is believed that the drugs were destined for delivery in George.

Western Cape provincial police management lauded the members for their effort to intercept the consignment which was destined for delivery in the Garden Route District. The seizure of the consignment is in line with policing priorities to eradicate drug trafficking along the entry and exit routes of the province.
