The Seriti Community Trust today handed over 10 vehicles to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

The vehicles are fully branded and furbished with the necessary equipment including radios, cameras, sirens, health and safety equipment as well as service plans and warranties at a cost of R6.5 million.

The Seriti Community Trust has been set up by Seriti Resources to help provide benefits to host communities and employees through community consultative forums which focus on activities and projects that will improve access to healthcare, education, housing and basic services.

Mike Teke, Seriti Resources Chief Executive Officer notes that: “Visible policing is an effective deterrent to criminality in communities. Safer communities will translate into a mining environment that is safe, stable, and sustainable, and will ensure investment not only in our mining operations but also in local businesses.

“We are proud to be collaborating with the SAPS on this project which will benefit our host communities in Mpumalanga including Emalahleni, Kriel, Morgenzon, Ogies, Phola, and Vosman.”

Seriti’s leadership was joined at the handover by the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga, Honourable VR Shongwe, who said: “We thank you Seriti for prioritising us as Mpumalanga, there are very few companies who consider safety and security as a key focus area.”

“The donation will surely improve the work of SAPS in preventing and combating anything that may threaten the safety and security of the community,” said the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Manamela.
