Limpopo Police hailed for intercepting vehicle carrying large amount of dagga worth over R3 Million in Burgersfort
13 April 2024 | From Arrive Alive

The police in Limpopo have once again demonstrated their commitment to combat interprovincial crimes. In a successful operation carried out on Friday night 12 April 2024, members of SAPS Burgersfort intercepted a Toyota Hilux bakkie transporting a substantial quantity of dagga with an estimated street value of R3, 5 million on the R37 road.
The major drug bust was made during a routine roadblock conducted jointly with the members of the local farm watch. The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Lyndenburg in Mpumalanga province to deliver the dagga in Burgersfort when it was stopped.
The driver sped off, and police gave chase. Upon realising that he was being cornered, he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle was carrying 13 bales of dagga and 46 plastic of dagga sealed with a compressor, weighing about 711kg. The vehicle was also confiscated as part of the investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the diligent work of the officers and continued support of the local farm watch members in the fight against crime.
Police are hard on the heels of the suspect and appeal to anyone with information that can assist in their investigation to contact the investigating officer Sergeant Tony Mootan on 083 787 3005 or Detective standby number 082 817 6330 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest Police Station or use MySAPS App.
