Dedicated teams of professionals and volunteers from Wilderness Search And Rescue WSAR Western Cape, together SANParks - Table Mountain National Park rangers, responded to Rhodes Memorial and Newlands Forest after a hiker fell from a wooden boardwalk on Saturday afternoon.

The 33-year-old and her friends were hiking between the King’s Blockhouse and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden when she suddenly slipped and fell from the trail, injuring her leg.

Realising that she was injured and unable to proceed, her friends immediately called the emergency contact number – 021 937 0300.

Rescuers placed her into a stretcher and carried her down the trail to a waiting vehicle. She was driven down to the Newlands Forrest parking, before being transferred to an ambulance and driven to hospital.

The incident was concluded at 15h25.

With clear conditions expected over the next few days, we urge everyone planning to venture outdoors to take extra care when crossing wet surfaces, including rocks, tree roots and wooden boardwalks, as these will likely still be slippery.
