Here are some basic steps to follow:
1. Assess severity: Look for signs of serious fracture like deformity or severe pain.
2. Call ALS Paramedics: Provide accurate details of the situation.
3. Keep calm: Offer reassurance and comfort to manage pain and anxiety.
4. Immobilise the leg: If you are qualified to do so, use a splint or improvised materials to prevent further injury.
5. Apply ice: Reduce swelling and alleviate pain with a cold pack or ice wrapped in a cloth.
6. Elevate the leg: Reduce swelling by raising it above heart level if possible.
7. Monitor vital signs: Keep an eye on breathing and pulse.
8. Provide comfort: Stay with the person, keep them warm, and offer emotional support until help arrives.
