A cash-in-transit heist occurred on Saturday, 25 May 2024, just outside a Mall, in Mangaung involving a group of armed suspects. The incident happened at approximately 13:30 when a security vehicle was intercepted by the suspects in a BMW.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) through its various units and private security personnel responded swiftly to the scene. A shootout ensued and no one was injured.

The SAPS through its multi-disciplinary approach deployed more boots on the ground to support the Detectives in tracing the suspects. They worked around the clock and as a result of their hard work, an intelligence driven operation was launched and seven suspects were detected at different places around Mangaung where they were hiding and were apprehend. The money suspected to have been looted during the incident with two firearms, an AK 47 rifle and a pistol and thirty rounds of ammunition as well as two cars were recovered by the team during this operation.

The public is urged and cautioned to refrain from rushing to scenes of this nature as it was seen in many circulating video clips, as this conduct not only poses a danger to their safety but might also land them in trouble. During collection of evidence at the scene of this nature there might be forensic evidence which might place such an individual on the scene even though they were not as such involved in the commission of a crime.

We appeal to those with information which can be of assistance in this matter to rather provide such information by contacting Crime Stop Nr. 08600 10111 or anonymously do so through My SAPS APP.

“The safety of our communities remains our top priority, and we will continue to work tirelessly to combat any criminal activity in this province.” Said the Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Baile Motswenyane, while also commending the team for making sure that the perpetrators are brought to book within a very short space of time after the incident.
