Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, has today, Sunday, 14 July 2024, went to Calais, Ward 13 of the Maruleng Local Municipality, to visit the Shiluvane family, who lost four children in a blaze of fire on Friday Evening.

MEC Mathye has joined the Mayor of the Maruleng Local Municipality, Clr Tsheko Musolwa, the Speaker - Clr Blantina Raganya, Chief Whip Dipuo Thobejane and the Ward Councillor Bishop Raganya, who have also came to the family to pledge their condolences.

According to reports, the children died in a fire that gutted their one roomed house, as their mother had left them to make preparations for her eldest son, who was to graduate from an initiation school, this weekend.

Neighbours were alerted to the inferno, as they saw smoke coming from the house, and upon arrival, they found all children dead.

MEC Mathye has expressed messages of condolences to the family, on behalf of the Provincial Government.

The team also proceeded to the Sekororo Hospital, where the mother of the deceased children is admitted. She sustained facial burns, as she tried to save the children from the fire.

Government will dispatch a team of Social Workers to provide psycho-social services to the affected family.

The MEC has also implored the police to make sure that this matter is fully investigated, to determine the cause of the fire.
