Exciting Updates from MEC Jackie Macie on Community Safety and Security Initiatives in Mpumalanga

The Department is thrilled to share with the public some exciting updates from MEC Jackie Macie, who is leading the charge on community safety, security, and liaison efforts in Mpumalanga.

MEC Macie kicked off his day with a one-on-one interview with the esteemed Mpumalanga Mirror, during which he discussed the department's strategies to combat various criminal activities in the province. From addressing drug smuggling and human trafficking to tackling stock theft, car theft, gender-based violence crimes, and border crimes, MEC Macie shed light on the proactive measures being taken to ensure the safety of communities.

One of the key highlights of the interview was the MEC's initiative to engage with the Minister of International Relations to address challenges in recovering stolen goods from Mozambique. By working towards strategic solutions and potential collaborations, the department aims to enhance cross-border security measures for the benefit of all.

Furthermore, MEC Macie emphasized the importance of community involvement in crime-fighting initiatives, encouraging active participation and collaboration with law enforcement agencies. The introduction of crime prevention wardens is set to further strengthen the ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities effectively.

Following his insightful discussion with Mpumalanga Mirror, the MEC took center stage in an engaging with Mpumalanga TV on an interview. Delving into his 100-day program in office, he elaborated on the ten priority areas outlined in the program, demonstrating a clear vision and commitment to driving positive change within the province.

In a significant announcement, MEC Macie unveiled plans for the deployment of 100 police officers and a team of highly trained intelligence officers to target key areas such as Pienaar, Masoyi, Marite, and Bushbuckridge. By concentrating efforts in these hotspot areas, the department aims to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety significantly.

As we reflect on recent distressing incidents of crime in our province, MEC Macie's message rings clear, "together, we can achieve more. It is through collective action, community engagement, and strategic partnerships that we can create a safer and more secure environment for all residents of Mpumalanga".
