Breakdown operator killed after being struck by a light motor vehicle whilst assisting at a truck breakdown on the R102 Near the Woodview Graveyard.

It was just after midnight that KZNVIP Medics together with other emergency services responded to a call of an accident on the R102 in between Palmview and Phoenix Offramp.

Upon arrival of KZNVIP Medics a Breakdown was engulfed in flames with the driver entrapped in the wreckage.

Tow truck operators, passerbys and Medics all attempted to extinguish the fire by using fire extinguishers sand and all other resources to free the driver but we're unsuccessful.

The driver of the truck who was being assisted was also injured in this crash and sustained serious injuries and was stabilized by KZNVIP Medics before being rushed rapidly to a medical facility.

It's believed that whilst the Breakdown operator was parked behind the Truck who was broken down with his amber bar light on, he was struck at high speed by a vehicle pushing the tow truck into the truck and immediately the vehicle burst into flames.

Reports also received from witnesses and people attending the scene is that the driver of the vehicle was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken away from Police for further testing.

If anyone knew the breakdown operator he was one who changed his whole life around and always shared a helping hand to whoever needed, he is indeed a great loss to the towing community and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family.
