The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Freeway Unit, Bike Unit and High Speed Unit Officers, conducted a festive season law enforcement operation along N3 Grey Avenue and R59 Nelson Mandela Drive in the Alberton area.
The operation focused on driver and vehicle fitness checks, speed enforcement, drunk driving and curbing lawlessness on major routes during the festive period.
Outcomes of the operation included x5 motorists being arrested for exceeding the speed limit, x1 suspect arrested for contravening the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002), x1 truck discontinued for unroadworthiness and x93 Section 56 notices issued to various road offenders.
All six suspects were detained at the Alberton Police Station and are expected to appear before the Alberton Magistrate’s Court soon.
The EMPD will continue these proactive operations to promote road safety and protect lives across the City of Ekurhuleni during the festive season.
