Boots on the ground and aircraft in the air. The SAPS #SearchandRescue teams, working side by side with the #SANDF, remain fully deployed in flood-affected areas as efforts continue to reach and assist communities in need.
Multiple rescue taskings were carried out yesterday, 16 January 2026, including the evacuation of an 84-year-old woman from a flooded area to hospital. She has since been examined by doctors and is in a stable condition.
In another operation, a man who was stranded and cut off after a bridge and road were washed away, was safely airlifted by a SAPS helicopter and reunited with his family on the other side.
The flooding has caused severe destruction, with homes damaged and access routes washed away. Despite these challenges, SAPS and SANDF teams continue to push forward, navigating dangerous conditions to ensure that no one is left behind.
The SAPS Air Wing remains on standby and operational, and rescue efforts will continue for as long as communities need assistance.
We urge residents to continue adhering to safety warnings and to avoid flooded areas. Your cooperation helps emergency teams focus on saving lives and ensures no lives are lost within this time.
