On Friday 04 April 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) High-Speed Unit Officers, conducted a road safety operation that resulted in the arrest of four (4) motorists, aged between twenty-five (25) and forty-nine (49), in the Boksburg area.
As part of the ongoing Easter holiday road safety campaign, the operation focused on enforcing compliance with speed limits, as speeding remains a major contributor to road fatalities within the City of Ekurhuleni.
The operation was conducted along the R21 roadway in Boksburg, where the speed limit is 100 km/h. During enforcement, four motorists driving a silver Audi, green BMW, white Chery and grey Suzuki were stopped after being recorded by speed-measuring equipment travelling at excessive speeds. The highest speed recorded was 175 km/h.
All four (4) motorists were arrested for contravening the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996. They were detained at the Boksburg North Police Station and are expected to appear in court on charges of exceeding the speed limit.
The EMPD urges all motorists to adhere to prescribed speed limits. Non-compliance will result in strict enforcement and offenders will face the full might of the law.
