Man hit by vehicle under N1 bridge Paarl.

09 April 2026 | From Arrive Alive

At 09.23 the DFW emergency control received a request for assistance with a man spotted lying on side of N1 Paarl turn-off 62A.

In a few minutes 3 DFW cruisers with advanced first aid responders arrived on scene, finding a 52 year old Jerome A. With double open fractures on both legs, but conscious.

Through the DFW network, the gravity of injuries were send to the DFW controllers and ER-24 and EMS metro rescue requested.

Police and provincional traffic secured the site, while responders performed their work of stabalizing and getting patient ready for transport.

Jerome is now on his was to Paarl Hospital.

The driver, clearly shocked of the misfortune,  gave his view of happenings and like many times before, the spot is loved by fruit sellers to offer fruit and  often run across the N1 to get there first. Both the N1 and Sonstraal already took many lives because of the illegal fruit sales.

As first responders were busy, many fruitsellers came walking towards the scene, carrying bags full of just "gathered" merchandise, without any shame or remorse...( we fear for the safety of motorist who suddenly are confronted with people crossing the motorway, who are not supposed to be there and coming suddenly out of the bushes).

Let's hope this event triggers an awareness.

The DFW is a non profit entity, Paarl based who as first responders assist pro bono to offer advanced first aid and trying to prevent extra missery and offer compassion at  these often terrible events.
