Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) marked its 100th incident for the year following the safe rescue of a 57-year-old hiker on Table Mountain on Monday morning.
The hiker had spent the night on the mountain after losing her way late on Sunday afternoon near the top of Corridor Ravine. She was located on Monday morning by members of Friends of Table Mountain, who immediately initiated the rescue response.
Working together with WSAR teams, the hiker was assisted from the mountain, transported to a safe access point, and handed over to a waiting ambulance crew for further medical assessment.
This milestone incident highlights what has been an exceptionally busy start to the year for WSAR teams.
WSAR spokesperson David Nel said: “Each month this year has exceeded the number of incidents we recorded in December 2025, traditionally one of our busiest periods.
"It’s been an intense start to the year, and a clear reminder of how important preparation, awareness, and early action are in the outdoors.”
He added: “Reaching 100 incidents so early in the year is significant, but what stands out is the unwavering commitment of our rescuers. Our teams continue to respond, often in challenging conditions, with professionalism and care.”
WSAR extends sincere thanks to all partner agencies, volunteer rescuers, and supporters who make these operations possible.
“Every successful outcome is a team effort,” Nel said. “From those who locate and assist in the field, to the coordinated response that follows, and the support behind the scenes. It is an honour to serve the outdoor communities of the Western Cape, alongside such dedicated and committed teams whose contributions, professionalism, and care make every operation possible.”
